Jarnail Bedi - Chairman & Technical Director:

Jarnail is one of the founding members of Bedi Investments Limited (BIL) and has had over 40 years of experience in the textile industry since the incorporation of the company in 1976. He has driven the company from a small production unit manufacturing ready-made suits to a vertically integrated textile mill specialising in the mass production of yarn, fabric and apparel manufacture.

He has immense experience as an electrical and mechanical engineer and has over the years carried out intense training programs to implement such skills within the factory. He holds a diploma in Garment Designing from the London School of Garment Manufacturing.

Jarnail is also responsible for overseeing other portfolios, namely: accounts, labour markets, statutory payments, imports, and exports among others.

As a successful industrialist, his hands on disposition, dedication and foresight have been key for the organisation and have contributed hugely to its success to date.

Jaswinder (Jas) Bedi - Chief Executive Officer (CEO):

Jas graduated as a textile technologist in the UK in 1984 and has over 27 years experience in the manufacturing sector in Kenya. Jas is an industrialist and an entrepreneur who has numerous responsibilities in business and various business member organizations. Over the years, he has attended several executive business courses organized by Harvard Business School, IMD, and IIM to mention a few to his credentials. He is also member of The Young Presidents Organization (YPO).

His business acumen has been recognized by Government of Kenya whereby he was a appointed a board member at The Export Promotion Council in 2003 and thereafter in 2006 transferred to serve the board of The Export Processing Zones Authority where to-date he is an active member.

Jas is currently the:

  • Chairman of the Kenya Association of Manufacturers (KAM).
  • Chairman of the African Cotton & Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF).
  • Managing Director of Bedi Investments Ltd.
  • Executive Director of Fine Spinners Ltd.
  • Director of East African Business Council (EABC).
  • Governor of Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA).

Jas has previously also served on the Board of the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) and for a period of 32 months served as Managing Director of Orbit Chemical Industries Limited from 2003 unto 2005. He was also the Chairman of Kenya Apparel Manufacturers Exporters Association (KAMEA) from 2003 unto 2010 and the Vice Chairman of Kenya India Business Council from 2003 unto 2005. In addition, he also served as Co-Chair of the World Bank Cotton Apex committee from 2004 unto 2009. Besides these positions he served in various trade committees of KAM prior to becoming Chairman.

To conclude, Jas has been tirelessly involved in developing export market opportunities, particularly in trading blocks such as EAC, COMESA, the USA and the European Union. He is currently actively promoting the textile and apparel value chain in Africa. Since the inception of AGOA, he has been involved in private sector initiatives to improve the trade provisions under AGOA, and aspiring to achieve predictability and sustainability that would lead to increased investment in trade throughout the continent.

His vision and strategic policies have been integral to BIL's success and has been a driving force in the expansionary diversification of the company from a textile firm to an investment holding company.

Satwinder (Sati) Bedi - Chief Operating Officer (COO):

Sati joined BIL in 2003 having graduated from the University of Buckingham (UK) with a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Financial Services. He is currently the head of BIL's Trading division and as COO, he overlooks all the manufacturing divisions of the company i.e. spinning, weaving, dying and finishing to ensure their effective running.

His duties include overseeing the daily operations of every department, as well as formulating and implementing each division's objectives in line with the overall corporate strategy of the company.

As head of BIL's Kaizen policy, he has also actively promoted efficiency within the institution by eliminating 'wasteful activity,' throughout the entire production process. In line with his vision of lean manufacturing, Kaizen has helped ensure maximum value with minimal waste.

Sati's management abilities and organisational skills have been of great value to the company and have contributed largely to BIL's status as a truly world class institution.
